Highlife Star Ofori Amponsah Urges Ghanaians to Recognize Domestic Opportunities

ACCRA: Highlife artist Ofori Amponsah has expressed concern over the tendency of some Ghanaians to leave the country in search of better prospects abroad, asserting that Ghana itself is replete with untapped opportunities. Speaking on Accra-based TV3, Amponsah shared his views on the potential within the nation and the challenges that can be overcome with a collective effort.

According to Ghana Web, Amponsah highlighted the issue of Ghanaians risking their lives in pursuit of what he described as “nonexistent greener pastures” overseas. He argued that the desire to take shortcuts blinds many to the possibilities within Ghana, which, despite its challenges, offers numerous avenues for success. The musician stressed the necessity for an introspective approach to realize these opportunities and foster change.

“The external shocks we face are significant,” Amponsah noted, drawing on his academic background in economics to provide context. He lamented the sight of compatriots embarking on perilous journeys by se
a to destinations like Italy, emphasizing that the nation possesses substantial potential, particularly in sectors like agriculture. Amponsah criticized the prevalent mindset of seeking quick financial gains, warning that such attitudes undermine economic stability.

Furthermore, Amponsah called for a unified national effort to address these issues, arguing that no single political party can tackle them alone. “We have to come together to fix this country,” he urged, advocating for a collective introspection to unlock the nation’s latent potential.
