Saki:Kpone-Katamanso Health officers at the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Health Directorate have urged parents to educate adolescent girls about breast health to help them recognize any unusual changes that may require medical attention.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Henrietta Agyeiwaa Gyaba, Principal Nursing Officer at the Directorate, emphasized that early education at home can aid girls in understanding hormonal changes and knowing when to seek professional medical help. She made these remarks during a breast cancer awareness program in Saki, within the Kpone-Katamanso municipality, highlighting that hormonal changes can sometimes affect the breasts.
Mrs. Gyaba noted that nurses are available to address health-related concerns and encouraged the public to reach out for guidance and information. Mrs. Emilia Agyemang, Senior Midwifery Officer, also called for increased efforts to reduce breast cancer mortality and encouraged regular breast self-examinations. She referenced a World Health Organization report indicating that Ghana recorded 2,695 breast cancer deaths, stressing the importance of women's health for national development.
The awareness program, attended by over 80 women at the Assemblies of God Church in Saki, included breast screenings and was part of the 2026 breast cancer awareness campaign themed 'Early Action, Better Outcomes.'
