Accra: A tragic incident was averted through the swift intervention of bystanders when a commercial vehicle nearly ran over a hawker selling by the roadside. The incident, which took place in an area of Accra yet to be identified, involved a red car with registration number GR 512-26. The vehicle reportedly knocked down the hawker, who is suspected to be a middle-aged woman, leaving her injured.
According to Ghana Web, the dramatic event was captured in a video shared on X by State News on May 13, 2026. The footage shows the woman trapped under the front parts of the vehicle following the impact. Distressed bystanders and passersby are heard urgently shouting at the driver to reverse the vehicle to avoid causing further harm to the victim.
The video further reveals the woman being pulled from beneath the car by some of the onlookers, while her goods, believed to be food snacks, are scattered across the road. She appeared shaken and traumatized, with visible injuries to her leg, as efforts were made to rush her to the hospital for medical attention.
In some of the background audio of the video, onlookers can be heard reprimanding the driver for his actions, emphasizing the severity of the situation and the urgent need for caution in such environments.
