Accra: The Ghana Hajj Board has officially distanced itself from Alhaji Sibamay Zakaria, who was recently involved in a controversial incident at the Ghana Police Service headquarters. Zakaria, also known as Alhaji Papa Angola, was seen in a viral video allegedly slapping Apostle Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, who had been detained for hate speech allegations.
According to Ghana Web, the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) issued a statement on August 13, 2026, refuting claims of any association with Zakaria. The statement clarified that Zakaria is not affiliated with the Ghana Hajj Board in any capacity. The board emphasized that any reports linking Zakaria to their organization are incorrect.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Ghana Police Service has taken Zakaria into custody. He is currently assisting with investigations and will face legal proceedings. The police have also initiated an inquiry through the Police Professional Standards Bureau to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability.
The viral video, which sparked a manhunt, showed Zakaria assaulting Apostle Adjei at the Police Headquarters in Accra. Adjei was in handcuffs at the time, having been arrested for making remarks against Islam. The video captured Zakaria cautioning the pastor for his lack of remorse before delivering the slap. The police have condemned the incident and are committed to pursuing justice in this matter.
