Accra: Ghanaian songstress Gyakie has spoken up about the unique challenges she has faced as a female artiste in Ghana’s music industry, revealing that women consistently receive less recognition than their male counterparts despite putting in equal effort.
According to Ghana Web, Gyakie shared her experiences during an interview with TV3, where she discussed her journey from academics to promoting her music across multiple regions in the country. The “Forever” hitmaker described her path as “very interesting,” detailing how she balanced her studies with her burgeoning music career while frequently traveling from her home in Kumasi to other regions to promote her work.
Gyakie emphasized the additional challenges faced by women in the industry, noting that it requires significantly more effort for female artists to gain visibility. “Being a female, like you mentioned as well, it takes some extra efforts to do certain things because it’s really male-dominated, and I feel like people don’t really pay attention to the females,” she stated.
The singer highlighted that this issue affects many talented women in the industry who continue to be overlooked despite releasing quality projects. “I’m not the only person who has dropped a project. We have other female artists who have dropped albums and EPs. They’ve done shows, but the attention they get is not as heavy as it is,” Gyakie added.
