Accra: Caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) are receiving intensive training to improve nutrition, safety, and hygiene in meals served to public basic schools. According to Ghana News Agency, the nationwide initiative, supported by the World Bank and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, is equipping caterers with practical skills in balanced meal preparation, food handling, and sanitation.
Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, toured training centers in Greater Accra and noted that the training marked a significant shift in the Programme. "I am happy to see that we are not only preparing meals for our children but also ensuring they meet the required nutritional standards," she said. The Minister was accompanied by Hajia Fati Forgor, GSFP National Coordinator, and Mr. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Mayor.
Dr. Lartey commended the GSFP management team for driving reforms, highlighting that the renewed focus on training and stakeholder collaboration was strengthening delivery. She reaffirmed the Government's commitment to improving the quality of meals served to pupils through continuous capacity building for caterers. The Minister encouraged participants to apply the knowledge acquired not only in preparing meals for schoolchildren but also in improving nutrition within their homes and communities.
