Accra: The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that parts of the Volta and Oti Regions will experience an interruption in power supply on Thursday, February 12. This planned outage is part of ongoing efforts to enhance electricity reliability in these regions.
According to Ghana News Agency, the outage is scheduled to take place at the Asiekpe Substation from 1000 hours to 1600 hours and will allow engineers to conduct a load redistribution exercise. The affected areas include Ho, Asiekpe, Sogakope, Kpeve, Kpando, Kadjebi, and surrounding communities.
A press statement released by GRIDCo's Corporate Communications Section on Tuesday, February 10, stated that the company, in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), regrets any inconvenience caused by the outage. The statement also conveyed appreciation to the public for their understanding and cooperation during this period.
The statement further noted that the two power utilities, under the guidance of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, are actively working to enhance electricity supply in the regions. Measures have been implemented to ensure the exercise is completed within the planned timeframe to minimize discomfort for consumers.
The Ministry acknowledged the long-standing challenges related to power supply in the Volta and Oti regions, which have historically lacked a dedicated transmission line. While a long-term project to construct such a line is underway, interim solutions, including the load redistribution exercise, are being executed to provide immediate relief.
The statement emphasized that the load redistribution exercise is set to significantly improve the reliability and stability of electricity supply to consumers in the affected regions.
