Accra: The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has officially submitted a request to the Ministry of Transport for a review of public transport fares. This move, made in collaboration with the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), aligns with the Administrative Instrument that governs the determination and review of these fares.
According to Ghana Web, the request was detailed in a press release dated September 3, 2026. This release, signed by the General Secretaries of the GPRTU of TUC, Ghana, Godfred Abulbire, and the GRTCC, Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, indicated that the review process will involve consultations with the Ministry of Transport. The review is part of a structured framework for assessing factors that impact the operations of commercial road transport services.
This announcement arrives as transport operators and passengers closely watch the developments in public transportation costs, influenced by shifts in the operating environment. The GPRTU and GRTCC have stated that discussions with the Ministry of Transport are anticipated to begin soon, with the results of these consultations to be communicated to the public.
The transport operators have appealed to drivers, station masters, transport owners, and passengers to remain calm during the consultation period. They emphasized that the outcome of the ongoing discussions will be shared once the process concludes.
