Gov’t has been in power for six years; that is enough time for policies to yield results – Murtala Muhammed

The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Murtala Muhammed has lambasted the government for the current state of the Ghanaian economy and the hardships facing Ghanaians.

Speaking to GTV on Monday, July 25, during an engagement on the Breakfast Show, the Parliamentarian stressed that after being in government for six years, the policy interventions of the government should have yielded results by now if indeed they are good.

“The reason why the cedi is losing its value is not about the fact that policy intervention takes time. It is about the incompetence of the government. I served at the Ministry of Trade as the Deputy Minister and it is important for me to put the statistics very clear for people to see.

“When the NDC took over power from President Kuffuor we were spending about 6 million dollars in the importation of rice into the country. Policies within five, six years are enough to yield results so these arguments that policies take time are unfounded,” Murtala Mohammed shared.

According to him, the later Prof. Mills and former president Mahama put in the necessary policy intervention to ensure that Ghana reduces its over dependency but the ruling government has failed to continue.

In his view, President Akufo-Addo has failed the Ghanaian people after making countless promises that have not seen the light of day.
