Accra: The government is aiming to empower 10,000 young individuals and businesses each year through the Adwumawura programme, as announced by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. This initiative is designed to provide entrepreneurship training, business development support, and access to funding, all in a bid to increase opportunities for young people.
According to Ghana Web, Professor Naana Jane emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for the youth as a means to address challenges facing Ghana and the broader West African region. She stressed that education should open doors to opportunity, allowing those who wish to learn a skill the ability to do so, and ensuring that hard work offers a credible path to a better life.
Speaking at a gathering of Catholic youth in Accra, themed 'Take Courage: Catholic Youth as Actors and Agents of Peace, Hope in West Africa,' the Vice President underscored the responsibility of leaders in creating such opportunities. She highlighted the National Apprenticeship Programme, which aims to expand opportunities for young people to acquire practical, technical, and vocational skills, enabling them to turn these skills into livelihoods.
Professor Naana Jane also mentioned the One Million Coders programme, focusing on equipping Ghanaians with the digital skills necessary for a rapidly evolving economy. She described these initiatives as investments not only in young people but also in the stability and prosperity of the country.
However, she acknowledged that government programmes alone would not address every challenge facing the youth. She emphasized the ongoing need to improve education, create more opportunities, support enterprise, and build an economy capable of generating decent and productive work.
