Accra: The Government has resourced the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) to acquire the Free-to-Air Broadcast rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A statement issued by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu said this would ensure widespread availability of viewing opportunities for Ghanaians to follow the exploits of the Black Stars at the tournament. GBC leads a consortium of Ghanaian TV stations that would be showing the matches.
According to Ghana News Agency, the National Broadcaster expressed its pleasure in announcing that, with the support of the Government of Ghana, it had secured the exclusive terrestrial (Free-To-Air) broadcast rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament. This initiative is aimed at fulfilling the Government's commitment to ensuring all Ghanaians have access to the world's most prestigious football tournament and to follow the progress of the Black Stars. GBC has established a National Broadcast Consortium for the broadcast of the World Cup matches.
The statement highlighted that this initiative, formed at the request of the Government, is leveraging a shared technical, marketing, and broadcasting framework to ensure maximum national reach. It also mentioned the Authorized Television Partners who have officially joined the Ghana TV Consortium and are licensed by FIFA (through New World TV and GBC) to broadcast the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches. These partners include GBC Channels: GTV, GTV Sports+, Garden City TV, and Obonu TV, along with Multimedia Group: Adom TV and Joy Prime.
The statement further elaborated on the participation of other media groups such as EIB Network: GHOne TV and Agoo TV, Ignite Media: Metro TV and Original TV, Media General: TV3 and Onua TV, Max TV, Sporty TV, Woezor TV, and UTV. Regarding Radio Broadcasting Rights, it specified that radio stations interested in broadcasting the matches must acquire a sub-license from GBC, and that unauthorized radio broadcasts would be strictly prohibited.
