According to Ghana Web, the suspension is part of a collaborative effort aimed at streamlining and improving the overall citizenship application process for members of the African diaspora. A public notice issued on February 1, 2026, highlighted the intentions behind this pause, emphasizing the need to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and user-friendliness for applicants worldwide.
The statement clarified that this suspension is not a withdrawal of Ghana's commitment to embracing members of the global African family. Both the Ministry of the Interior and the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening connections with the diaspora. They assured that efforts are underway to refine the process, making future applications smoother.
