Accra: The government has announced the allocation of GHS1.1 billion to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to bolster key agricultural initiatives, as revealed by Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. This significant financial commitment aligns with the government's campaign promises and aims to support a range of critical agricultural programmes.
According to Ghana Web, during the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on July 23, 2026, Dr. Forson outlined the specific areas set to benefit from this funding. The allocation will support flagship initiatives such as the National Food Buffer Stock Company, fertiliser and certified seed distribution, the Feed Ghana programme, and the development of irrigation infrastructure. These investments are part of a broader strategy to enhance food production, improve agricultural productivity, and provide support to farmers nationwide.
Dr. Forson also shared that GHS551 million has been deposited into an escrow account to establish a letter of credit for the creation of Farmer Service Centres. This initiative aims to modernise Ghana's agricultural sector by improving farmers' access to essential services, inputs, and equipment.
The government anticipates that these investments will significantly boost agricultural production, enhance food security, and create additional opportunities within the agricultural value chain.
