Accra: Gordon Asare-Bediako, a Ghanaian journalist and aspiring communications director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled plans to centralize and professionalize the party's messaging strategy. His proposal includes introducing structured speaking notes, training programs, and a coordinated media strategy to ensure consistent communication across all party platforms.
According to Ghana Web, Asare-Bediako aims to establish a "well-disciplined, structured communication directorate" to maintain uniform messaging across the party's communicators and affiliated media. Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3 FM's "Atumpan" program, he highlighted the importance of providing communicators with speaking notes to guide public engagements and enhance arguments during media appearances. "All communicators will have speaking notes to aid in their delivery and make fierce arguments during in-studio discussions," he stated.
As part of his plan, Asare-Bediako intends to align pro-party media outlets with common messaging frameworks and empower social media activists under his proposed structure. Although he has not formally served in the party's communication structure, Asare-Bediako has supported it informally and believes that better human relations and coordination are essential to improving the party's public image. His goal is to "win back the media" and restore what he describes as the party's agenda-setting influence in public discourse.
He criticized the current ad hoc deployment of communicators and pledged to train at least 100 "top-notch communicators" to strengthen the party's grassroots communication capacity. "There is no proper deployment, and I seek to change this narrative," he remarked. Additionally, he proposed identifying "third voices," such as academics and independent commentators, to broaden the party's communication reach.
These comments come as the NPP engages in internal discussions to restructure its communication strategy following its 2024 electoral defeat. Contenders are positioning themselves for key leadership roles ahead of the next election cycle.
