Accra: The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media publication alleging that Dominic Bonsu Ventures, owned by Dominic Bonsu, absconded with GHS200 million belonging to the Board.
According to Ghana Web, GoldBod issued a statement on Monday, August 3, 2026, describing the widely circulated news as 'entirely false, malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public'. The board refuted claims that Dominic Bonsu was a former bodyguard or personal security officer to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, emphasizing that no such relationship has ever existed.
GoldBod further denied allegations that it had lost or advanced GHS200 million or any amount of money to Bonsu or Dominic Bonsu Ventures. The statement clarified that the licence of Dominic Bonsu Ventures was suspended over suspected breaches of its licence terms and conditions, as well as violations of the GoldBod trading directives, in accordance with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
The board elaborated that following investigations and enforcement action, Bonsu was arrested and is currently remanded in lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where he remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings. GoldBod expressed concern over what it described as a deliberate attempt to distort an ongoing enforcement process, misinform the public, and undermine confidence in its operations.
The organization urged the public to disregard the claims circulating on social media and to rely only on information released through its official communication channels. GoldBod also appealed to media organisations, bloggers, and social media users to verify information before publication and uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism.
Reaffirming its commitment, GoldBod stated it would continue to enforce the laws governing Ghana's gold trading sector fairly, professionally, and without fear or favour.
