Accra: The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has reconstituted its statutory committees to strengthen governance, administration, professional development, and strategic growth. The move is aimed at supporting the Executive in fulfilling its responsibilities and advancing the objectives of the Association, as outlined in Articles 30, 31, and 32 of the Association's 2004 Constitution.
According to Ghana News Agency, a statement signed by Mr. Dominic Hlordzi, General Secretary of the GJA, highlighted that the committees are composed of seasoned journalists, media managers, and experienced professionals. Their expertise is expected to promote professionalism, deepen member engagement, and support the implementation of strategic programs within the Association.
The Membership Vetting Committee will be led by Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the GJA, along with notable members including Mr. Kissi Yeboah, Mr. Seth Eyiah, Mr. Peter Ankomah, and Ms. Nana Yaa Konadu, bringing diverse experiences from various media outlets.
The Professional Development Committee will have Mrs. Rebecca Ekpe, Vice President of the Association, as its chair. The committee includes Mr. Kofi Yeboah, Mr. Cliff Ekufful, Mr. George Ramsey Benamba, and Mr. Kweku Owusu Peprah, each bringing valuable insights from their respective media backgrounds.
Mr. Suleiman Mustapha, Organising Secretary of the GJA, will chair the Social Affairs Committee, which comprises members such as Mr. Isaac Owusu Asare, Mrs. Linda Asante Agyei, Mr. Isaac Nuamah Yeboah, and Mrs. Maame Efua Mensah, contributing their editorial expertise.
The International Relations Committee, chaired by Mr. Dominic Hlordzi, includes Mrs. Mary Mensah, Mr. Zambaga Rufai, Mr. Ken Sackey, and Mr. Yaw Obeng Manu, providing a strong focus on external media relations.
Mrs. Bertha Badu Agyei, Treasurer of the GJA, will head the Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee, supported by Mr. Charles Benoni Okine, Mrs. Audrey Dekalu, Mr. Nii Odartey Lamptey, and Mr. Michael Ocquaye, focusing on financial sustainability and resource mobilization.
The statement emphasized the National Executive's confidence in the committees' collective experience and professional expertise to enhance the work of the Association, uphold high professional standards, and contribute to the welfare of journalists nationwide. The committees are set to be sworn into office on Monday, August 17, 2026, during the 77th Anniversary Lecture and Symposium of the Association at the British Council in Accra.
