Navrongo: Sakpe-Naa Alabira Ibrahim, the Global President of the Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) Old Students Association (NABIA), has called on alumni across the world to renew their commitment to the growth and development of their alma mater. He emphasized that it is the collective duty of former students to support the school that laid the foundation for their success, highlighting the importance of Nabia's active involvement in sustaining NAVASCO's legacy of academic excellence.
According to Ghana News Agency, Sakpa-Na Ibrahim made this appeal during the eighth Speech and Prize-Giving Day celebration at the school in Navrongo. The event was themed 'Countering Drug Abuse: Measures and Strategies Towards Effective Teaching and Learning for Building Ghana's Human Capital.' He stressed that the progress of NAVASCO heavily relies on the dedication of its alumni.
Sakpa-Na Ibrahim praised the contributions of various year groups, including the 1984 Year Group, which co-sponsored the celebration with GH?50,000, and the 1983 Year Group for completing a Masters' dining area project. The 1982 Year Group also contributed by donating 20 chairs, complementing the delivery of 470 new conference room chairs, while other Nabia members collectively sponsored 25 academic awards valued over GH?30,000.
He announced future projects for the Association, such as completing the digitalisation of school records and installing a high-speed fibre optic internet connection to enhance STEM education. Despite challenges faced by this year's sponsoring group in raising funds, Sakpa-Na Ibrahim encouraged members to continue their efforts, emphasizing the need for NABIA to address infrastructural challenges at NAVASCO.
To ease financial burdens and enhance project impact, he proposed that more than one year group co-sponsor future Speech and Prize-Giving Day celebrations. Addressing financial matters, he expressed concern over delays in membership dues payments, which are crucial for sustaining Nabia's activities and ability to organize events.
Sakpa-Na Ibrahim also commended Dr. Kwabena Donkor, former Energy Minister and President of the 1977 Year Group, for his exemplary financial support. He raised concerns about low participation in Annual General Meetings and urged alumni to engage more actively in Nabia's activities, underscoring that collective participation strengthens the alumni network and enhances decision-making processes.
