GHPL Goal King and ex-Ashgold striker Yaw Annor gets Togo call up after switching nationality

Former Ashantigold forward, Yaw Annor is set to make an appearance for the Togolese national team after earning a call-up for this month’s friendlies.

The 2021/22 Ghana Premier League top scorer has been invited by coach Paulo Duarte for their two international friendlies against Cote d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea.

Yaw Annor has a Ghanaian father and Togolese mother and is eligible to feature for any of them.

But the enterprising winger has decided to switch nationality and play for the Sparrowhawks as he sees his Black Stars chances limited.

Togo will tackle Cote d’Ivoire on September 24, 2022, in Paris, France before taking on Equatorial Guinea three days later in Morocco’s capital Casablanca.

Annor was instrumental in the Ghanaian top-flight last season after finishing as the highest scoring player after netting 22 goals in 30 appearances.

He also won the man-of-the-match awards on eight occasions following his impressive goal-scoring form.

The highly-rated footballer is headed to Egyptian side Ismaily SC after his enthralling performances where he has a five-year contract worth around US$200,000.

Annor becomes the latest Ghana-born to switch international allegiance to Togo after Kennedy Boateng, Emmanuel Hackman, and Samuel Asamoah.
