Tarkwa: The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has recently inducted 39 engineering practitioners after they successfully completed the Institution's professional certification process. The induction ceremony took place at AngloGold Ashanti's Iduapriem Mine in Tarkwa, where 35 of the new inductees are employed.
According to Ghana Web, the event was attended by members of the GhIE National Executive Council, executives from the Western Regional Branch and Tarkwa Chapter, Iduapriem Mine management, the newly inducted practitioners, and other stakeholders. Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, the Director of Processing, Ing Abraham Osei Badu, congratulated the inductees and affirmed the mine's commitment to the professional development of its employees. He noted that all 33 Iduapriem employees who participated in the recent certification process passed the examinations, increasing the total number of certified employees to about 85 since the program's inception.
Ing Osei Badu emphasized the importance of maintaining professional competence, integrity, and safety in their duties, stating, "Today's induction is not a formality. It is a commitment." The Director of Maintenance and Engineering, Ing Joseph Appiah Kodom Effah, further urged the inductees to uphold ethical standards and demonstrate competence throughout their careers. He encouraged them to showcase the capabilities of Ghanaian engineers on an international stage, describing them as "the young engineers the world is waiting to see and experience."
GhIE President, Ing Ludwig Annang Hesse, highlighted the significance of professional registration and continuous development in maintaining engineering standards. He encouraged the inductees to engage in lifelong learning, adhere to professional ethics, and apply their skills to meet Ghana's developmental needs.
Ing Osman Karim, Chairman of the GhIE Tarkwa Chapter and Iduapriem GhIE Coordinator, remarked on the certification program's role in strengthening engineering capacity within the mining sector. He urged the newly inducted engineers to participate in GhIE programs and pursue Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to stay abreast of technological advancements.
The ceremony also featured contributions from the Chairman of the Membership Committee, Ing Dr Michael A. Bekoe, and Ing Isaac Boakye Aduenin, who advised the inductees to uphold the standards and ethical principles of the engineering profession. The GhIE President administered the professional oath before awarding certificates to the 39 engineers.
