Mangoase:Abigail Agyeiwaa has dedicated over a decade of her teaching career to educating children in underserved communities, a choice that sets her apart from many educators who avoid postings to remote villages. Her commitment has earned her the title of Most Outstanding Teacher at the 2026 Ghana Teacher Prize.
According to Ghana Web, Agyeiwaa, who teaches English at Mangoase SHS and is a former Cambridge Teacher of the Year, was awarded a three-bedroom house valued at GH¢700,000. Rather than being assigned to a rural area, Agyeiwaa proactively requested a posting to a village when she began her career.
She recounted her decision to seek a rural posting, recalling her visit to the education office in Akuapem North, where she surprised an officer with her request to work in a village instead of a city. Agyeiwaa emphasized the importance of providing quality education to children in rural areas, stating that their location should not determine the quality of education they receive.
Agyeiwaa believes that children in rural communities are often there due to circumstances beyond their control and deserve the same educational opportunities as those in urban settings. She was also named the Sub-Saharan African regional winner of the 2026 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards, joining other Ghanaian teachers who have been recognized with this honor.
