Accra: Ghanaian photography duo Samuel Appiah Gyan and Emmanuel Appiah Gyan, known as Twinsdntbeg, have shared the poignant story behind their brand name, which is rooted in past experiences of pain and rejection.
According to Ghana Web, in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb's Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment, the twin brothers recounted how the name 'Twinsdntbeg' originated from the challenges they faced during their early music career. They described a critical moment when a music producer belittled their efforts, a familiar experience that had become overwhelming for them.
'At the time, we were doing music, we had a few demos, and we put them on a CD, then we started going to producers because we have the talent, so they should listen to us and see if we would be able to do something with what we have," the brothers explained. They recalled an incident with a producer in Lapaz who dismissed their music, implying they were merely "bathroom singers." This incident, among others, led them to a breaking point.
Following these rejections, the duo made a pivotal decision to stop seeking validation or opportunities from others, which inspired their unique brand name. They resolved to forge their own path and succeed without relying on external support. "That comment really broke us," they reflected, emphasizing their commitment to not beg for opportunities and to work hard for their success.
The name 'Twinsdntbeg' has since served as more than just a brand; it became a guiding principle for the duo. It acts as a constant reminder to remain self-reliant and true to their commitment made during those challenging times. "What we also realised was that the name we put on ourselves put us on the pedestal, not to rely on individuals but rather rely on ourselves and our God, and that took us to places," they shared.
Their journey from music to photography has been marked by growth and validation of their decision to be independent. The name continues to symbolize their resilience and reminds them of their humble beginnings. Today, they proudly state that they no longer need to seek help, as their hard work has opened doors and commanded the attention of influential figures.
