Accra, Ghanaian exporters have been urged to capitalize on opportunities in the German market to boost their revenue, as advised by Mr. Richard Ekow Mensah, Head of DEinternational Services and Key Account at the German Industry and Commerce in Ghana.
According to Ghana News Agency, during an interactive session organized by the Compete Ghana Programme, Mr. Mensah highlighted the potential of the 37,000-strong Ghanaian diaspora in Germany as a lucrative market for Ghanaian foods and products. He emphasized the importance of meeting standardization requirements and suggested exporters seek training from the Ghana Export Promotion Authority. Mr. Nicholas Gebara, Team Lead of Compete Ghana, noted that they are training 40 companies on accessing the EU market under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), funded by the European Union. The session included insights from various embassies and bilateral chambers of commerce on opportunities in their respective countries.
Mr. Raffaele Quarto, Trade Counselor of the EU Delegation in Ghana, pointed out the duty-free and quota-free access granted to Ghanaian exporters under the EPA. He advised considering the diversity in languages and consumer needs within the 27 EU countries. Madam Priscilla Brookman-Amissah Impraim, CEO of AB Ovo Confectionery Limited, shared the benefits of the Compete Ghana Programme, noting the assistance provided to selected companies in exporting to the EU. She called for more streamlined processes to facilitate exports.
