Accra:Data released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa has unveiled several inconsistencies, including records of individuals born in future years.
According to Ghana Web, the evacuation effort has been under scrutiny after the Minority in Parliament demanded transparency regarding the number of evacuees and the financial details of the operation. The released data has brought to light at least 14 names with questionable personal details, raising concerns about the reliability of the records.
In some instances, evacuees are listed with birthdates that are either impossible or set in the future. For example, an individual named Precious Sekyiwaa is recorded as being born on October 28, 2034, while James Akoto Baffour is listed with a birthdate of December 26, 2036. Additionally, Victoria Aduakwa and Ebenezer Losu have future birth years of 2034 and 20232, respectively.
Other peculiar entries include a person named David Botwey, whose birthdate is noted as the fourth day of the 24th month in 1989, and another individual with a February 31, 1990 birthdate, a date that does not exist. These anomalies have led to questions about potential errors in data entry or broader issues in managing the evacuation process.
The controversy over these discrepancies is compounded by the reported GHS49.7 million spent by the government on the evacuation, leading to increased calls for accountability.
