Ghana will not be in its current situation if economy was resilient as gov’t preached – Edem Agbana

Deputy National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Agbana says it is now clear the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government lied to the people about the country’s economy.

The ravages of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, did not spared Ghana which now finds itself in a difficult place with several challenges exposed by the poor performance of the cedi and the high cost of fuel in the country amid rising double digit inflation.

Speaking to TV3 in an interview on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, Edem Agbana lamented how President Akufo-Addo’s government has refused to accept responsibility for mismanaging the economy.

According to him, Ghana’s economy is collapsing due to the incompetence of the ruling government.

“We have a leadership that is refusing to accept that it is because of their incompetence and mismanagement of the economy that is why we are where we are today.

“Assuming without admitting that indeed, all the countries the economy is not doing well, why must we be part of the worst performing?

“Did Covid not hit Togo, Benin? If the economy was resilient as they wanted us to believe, we will not have been here today,” the NDC National Deputy Youth organiser shared on the New Day programme.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has refuted claims that Ghana’s economy is doing terribly when compared to other economies of the world.

According to him, no country has been spared by the ravages of the Coronavirus pandemic and it will be inaccurate to single out Ghana’s economy as performing terribly.

President Akufo-Addo told BBC his government has put in place credible measures that will revive Ghana’s economy and make it stronger again.
