The CDA Consult, in collaboration with Lifeline Haven Company Limited, has launched a nationwide five-year advocacy campaign for free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to enhance prevention, detection, and treatment of cervical cancer in Ghana. The campaign aims to raise public awareness about cervical cancer risks and the necessity of coordinated efforts to combat the disease. Dr. Kumi expressed satisfaction with the project, reiterating that cervical cancer is curable if symptoms are identified early and medical advice is sought. He emphasized the importance of management pathways for invasive cancer care, highlighting the need for timely patient referrals and support throughout the diagnosis and treatment process. Mr. Francis Ameyibor, Executive Director of CDA Consult Ltd, announced plans to introduce 'Holistic Health Reporting' training for media personnel and health professionals across Ghana's 16 regions. He emphasized the importance of br idging the gap between health professionals and media personnel to improve healthcare delivery and health news dissemination. He noted that the project aims to equip media personnel with health reporting skills and empower health professionals to engage effectively with the media on health matters, particularly cervical cancer. Mr. Ameyibor pointed out that previous studies have shown a lack of cervical cancer awareness among Ghanaians, underscoring the need to enhance the capacity of media and health professionals as change agents in health communication. Ms. Jennifer Nelson, a Preventive and Occupational Health Management Consultant, emphasized the importance of public awareness and access to resources in preventing and controlling cervical cancer. She advocated for vaccinating girls aged 9 to 14 against HPV, as it is a highly effective strategy to prevent HPV infections and related cancers. Ms. Nelson, who is also the CEO of Lifeline Haven Company Limited, stressed the priority of administering HPV vacci nations before girls engage in sexual activity.
