Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has expressed optimism that Ghana will soon elect its first female president, pointing out the rising role of women in government, the judiciary, and other national institutions in the country.
According to Ghana Web, President Mahama made these remarks while delivering the keynote address at the High-Level Breakfast Meeting on Financing and Reaffirming Africa's Gender Commitments. He lauded Ghana's progress in promoting gender equality and highlighted the historic milestones the country has achieved. He expressed confidence that it is only a matter of time before a woman assumes the presidency in Ghana.
President Mahama emphasized that Africa cannot achieve meaningful development if half of its population is left behind. He noted the significant presence of women in top leadership positions as evidence of Ghana's progress in women empowerment. This includes the roles held by the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, as well as female ministers and heads of key institutions.
