Accra: The Ghana Shippers' Authority has affirmed its dedication to reducing the cost of conducting business at Ghana's ports despite facing opposition from certain shipping lines and agents. The Authority is addressing concerns regarding the high fees associated with cargo release.
According to Ghana Web, the Ghana Shippers' Authority issued a statement on May 20, 2026, explaining the rationale behind its decision to review the Container Administrative Charge. This move came after receiving numerous complaints from importers, exporters, and freight forwarders about exorbitant fees. In response, the Authority announced a cap of GH?550 per container unit. However, the implementation date for this cap was postponed to July 1, 2026, with an interim cap of GH?720 approved by Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe.
The Authority noted that some shipping lines and agents have expressed their disapproval of the cap and have pursued legal action to halt the directive. Despite this opposition, the Ghana Shippers' Authority remains steadfast in its mission. "We remain unfazed, resilient, and committed to performing our role as a regulator," the statement emphasized.
