The Government of Ghana has successfully secured broadcast rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ensuring that football fans across the nation will have the opportunity to watch the tournament live on selected media platforms. This announcement was made by the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, during a presentation event.
According to Ghana Web, the Minister revealed the acquisition of these rights during the presentation of a GHS5 million donation from GCB Bank, which is intended to support the Black Stars fundraising campaign. The Minister emphasized that the support from the government, alongside contributions from corporate institutions and various fundraising initiatives, played a crucial role in acquiring the television rights for the global football event.
Kofi Adams stated, 'Through the support of government and fundraising efforts, we have been able to secure broadcast rights to telecast the World Cup matches live on some of the media stations.' This move is part of a broader strategy to ensure that the excitement of the World Cup reaches every corner of Ghana.
The GHS5 million contribution from GCB Bank is a significant part of ongoing efforts to generate financial support for the Black Stars as they gear up for their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign. Earlier, the government launched a fundraising initiative to encourage corporate entities and other stakeholders across Ghana to support the national team as preparations for the tournament intensify.
