Ghana Prisons Service Investigates Alleged Poisoning Plot Against Former NPP Chairman

Accra:The Ghana Prisons Service has initiated an investigation into allegations of a plot by some inmates to poison Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, the former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The investigation was prompted by a report from Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a senior aide to Wontumi, who claimed that the politician informed him of the life-threatening scheme during a court appearance.

According to Ghana Web, the alleged plot was uncovered following reports that some inmates attempted to poison Wontumi while he was in custody. This revelation coincides with Wontumi marking his 100th day behind bars.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Abdul Latif Adamu, the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Prisons Service, confirmed the ongoing investigation in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM. Although disappointed with how the aide communicated the issue, CSP Adamu assured that a thorough probe is being conducted to establish the facts and address the situation if the allegations prove true.

CSP Adamu also addressed concerns about potential staff or inmate transfers related to the allegations, stating that he could not confirm such actions at the moment. He reassured the public that Chairman Wontumi is in good health, safe, and has not faced any mistreatment while in custody. He emphasized the importance of the investigation to determine the truth behind the claims.
