Accra:Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, Gifty Oware-Mensah, has been officially charged with stealing and willfully causing financial loss to the State by the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine.
According to Ghana Web, she is accused of misappropriating a total of GH$38,458,248.87 between February 2022 and March 2024. The charges emerged while she was overseeing finance, audit, and procurement at the National Service Authority (NSA), causing significant controversy within the sporting community due to her prominent role.
The charges against Oware-Mensah include five counts, such as stealing GH$31,502,091.40 belonging to the National Service Authority, willfully causing financial loss to the state through a fake hire-purchase arrangement, abuse of public office for personal gain, and money laundering through the transfer of funds into personal and affiliated accounts.
The funds were reportedly secured through an agreement with the Agricultural Development Bank, with repayments to be deducted from the allowances of 9,934 National Service Personnel, later found to be fictitious. Some of the misappropriated funds were traced to Amaecom Global Company, where Oware-Mensah was a director, and other companies linked to her.
These charges followed an investigation initiated by the National Intelligence Bureau after reports of corruption and financial irregularities at the NSA.
