Ghana Expected to Exit IMF Programme by April 2026, Says President Mahama

Lusaka: President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that Ghana is on course to complete its International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme by April 2026, citing improvements in key economic indicators. Speaking at the Ghana-Zambia Business Dialogue, President Mahama highlighted the progress made in various economic sectors.

According to Ghana Web, the President noted that easing inflation, strengthened foreign reserves, and renewed investor confidence following recent fiscal reforms have been instrumental in this development. These improvements, he stated, position Ghana strongly to boost trade and attract investment, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Mahama outlined that the current economic gains provide a solid foundation for Ghana's development agenda, which is structured around five strategic pillars. These pillars include industrialisation and value addition, export-led growth, modern infrastructure development, robust support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), women, and youth entrepreneurs, as well as fostering a predictable, transparent, investor-friendly business environment.
