Ghana Comedy Awards Unveils Nominees for 2026 Edition

Accra: Organisers of the Ghana Comedy Awards have announced the nominees for the 2026 edition of the event, recognising comedians and industry stakeholders for their contributions to the growth of comedy in the country. Creative Republic Limited, organisers of the awards scheme, unveiled this year's shortlist through its official social media platforms ahead of the ceremony scheduled for August 1 at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ridge, Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the awards, now in their sixth edition, celebrate outstanding achievements across various categories within Ghana's comedy industry. Organisers said the awards ceremony would honour performers and contributors who have made significant impacts on the sector over the past year. Creative Republic also opened a review period for the nominees list, allowing comedians and stakeholders to submit petitions regarding omissions, corrections, or other concerns.

The review process, as stated by the organisers, would run from July 11 to 13, after which the board and management would consider submissions and make any necessary adjustments before the final nominees list is confirmed. The Ghana Comedy Awards has become one of the country's leading platforms for recognising excellence in comedy and promoting the development of the industry.

The list of nominees spans numerous categories, including Comedy Skit Act of the Year, Most Popular Comedian of the Year, Standup Comedian of the Year, and Comedian of the Year, among others. Some notable nominees include Comeddy Bwoy, Ben South, Clemento Suarez, and Lekzy Decomic. The awards also recognise African comedians with a category for African Comedian of the Year, featuring nominees like Layi Wasabi and Sabinus.

Other categories highlight the talents of comic actors and actresses in movies or skits, comic media personalities, and comic influencers. The inclusion of categories such as Comic Animator of the Year and Comic Music Act of the Year showcases the awards' commitment to acknowledging the diverse aspects of comedy in Ghana.
