Kumasi: The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has announced the creation of the Ghana Armed Forces Trust Fund. This initiative, led by Lt Gen Agyapong, aims to provide immediate financial assistance of up to fifty-five thousand Ghana Cedis (GH?55,000.00) to the families of deceased serving personnel.
According to Ghana Web, the fund is designed to offer financial relief to families while they await the disbursement of pensions and gratuities. Lt Gen Agyapong made this announcement during a goodwill visit to two ex-servicemen in Kumasi, located in the Ashanti Region. The visit underscored the CDS's commitment to recognizing the contributions of veterans and leveraging their experiences for the benefit of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
During his visit, Lt Gen Agyapong met with Ex-Chief Warrant Officer Adu Yaw Daniel and Ex-Warrant Officer Class One Ali Nakyea Seidu. The former held the position of Forces Sergeant Major from May 2009 to May 2013, contributing 37 years of service. He shared insights and suggestions to strengthen support systems for retired personnel. Ex-WOI Ali Nakyea commended the current GAF leadership for their initiatives and emphasized the importance of maintaining professional excellence.
Discussions during the visit also addressed key welfare issues, including spousal pensions and the GAF Benevolent Fund. Lt Gen Agyapong revealed that the Military High Command has engaged the Armed Forces Council to extend spousal pension payments from three to six months.
