Accra: Ghana recorded a strong trade performance in 2025, as exports far exceeded imports, resulting in a record trade surplus of GHS148.3 billion. According to Ghana Web, released on Thursday, July 30, 2026, the country's total trade value rose from GHS545.1 billion in 2024 to GHS654.7 billion in 2025, representing a 20.1% increase.
Ghana exported goods worth GHS401.5 billion, while imports stood at GHS253.2 billion. This resulted in a trade surplus more than three times the GHS44.7 billion recorded in 2024. The GSS noted exports exceeded imports in every month of 2025, with December recording the highest trade activity and the biggest monthly surplus of GHS25.8 billion.
Gold remained Ghana's top export earner, generating GHS252.4 billion and accounting for almost 63% of total exports. Cocoa and cocoa products contributed GHS56.2 billion, while mineral fuels and oils added GHS35.3 billion. The report also showed that Ghana's export growth was largely driven by higher earnings from key commodities, particularly gold, which continued to dominate the country's export sector. The strong performance of these commodities helped boost foreign exchange earnings and strengthen the country's trade position.
