Accra: Dr Patrick Ekye Kwesie, Leader of the Western Nzema Youth League (WNYL), a youth group, has charged the Ghanaian youth to be inspired by the vision of Ghana's first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and work towards achieving a prosperous nation.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Kwesie emphasized that Nkrumah's dream for the country and the African continent as a whole was not just history, but a blueprint for the youth to take action and lead the development agenda they desired. He highlighted that to truly grasp the significance of 69 years of independence, it is essential to understand the legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who was more than a politician. Nkrumah was a pan-African visionary whose impact spans almost every socio-economic facet of Ghana, from education and energy to trade and agriculture.
Dr Kwesie pointed out that, despite the 69 years since the journey began under Dr Nkrumah's leadership, challenges such as high unemployment, the threat of illegal mining (galamsey), and inefficiencies in education, health, and other sectors continue to hinder the potential of many young Ghanaians. He observed that unlike the generation of 1957, which fought for political freedom, today's youth are battling for economic freedom, better leadership, accountability, and progress.
He urged the youth to become torchbearers of Dr Nkrumah's development aspirations for the country and to collaborate in building a better Ghana for both current and future generations. Dr Kwesie conveyed a clear message to the young people of Ghana as the nation marks 69 years of independence: the struggle has evolved from seeking political liberation to mastering their own destiny and exercising that freedom with discipline to achieve the prosperity envisioned by Nkrumah.
