GFA Sacks Otto Addo Amid Black Stars’ Struggles

Accra: The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the sacking of Black Stars coach, Otto Addo. The decision to part ways with Addo was communicated through a statement from the GFA's communications team, which was released on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The association expressed its gratitude to the coach for his service to the national team.

According to Ghana Web, the statement from the GFA read, "The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the head coach of the senior men's national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately." The association also thanked Addo for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors. The GFA has promised to announce the new technical direction for the Black Stars in the near future.

The dismissal of Otto Addo follows the Black Stars' recent disappointing performances, including a 2-1 defeat to Germany on Monday, March 30, 2026. This loss marked the team's second consecutive defeat, having previously suffered a 5-1 loss to Austria on March 27, 2026.

Otto Addo was appointed as the head coach of the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association on March 15, 2024. This appointment marked his return to a role he had previously held on an interim basis. Addo initially served as interim coach before the team's 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-off matches against Nigeria. He left the position following the team's underwhelming performance at the 2022 World Cup.
