Northern region: The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has embarked on a three-day working visit to the Northern and North East Regions to oversee the ongoing Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) beneficiary enrolment exercise. The visit is primarily focused on engaging key stakeholders regarding the implementation and expansion of the LEAP programme.
According to Ghana Web, the Minister is joined by members of the Ministry's Advisory Board and management staff to evaluate the progress of the nationwide enrolment exercise. Dr Lartey's itinerary in the Northern Region included a courtesy call on the Chief of Fuo, Abdulai Neindow, in the Sagnarigu Municipality, followed by a visit to the community's LEAP enrolment centre.
At the enrolment centre, Dr Lartey interacted with beneficiaries, registration officials, and local community members, observing the enrolment process. Her visit aims to ensure that eligible households are enrolled with transparency and efficiency. Speaking to the media, Dr Lartey emphasized that the monitoring exercise is part of the Ministry's broader efforts to successfully implement the expanded LEAP programme, which targets the enrolment of 400,000 beneficiary households nationwide.
Dr Lartey further explained that the exercise would help the Ministry assess field operations, identify challenges, and implement timely interventions to enhance service delivery. Additionally, she underscored the significance of the nationwide LEAP reassessment, which is designed to update beneficiary data, bolster the programme's integrity, and ensure support reaches the most vulnerable households.
The reassessment, according to Dr Lartey, aims to minimize inclusion and exclusion errors while promoting fairness, accountability, and effective targeting of social protection interventions. The three-day visit also includes engagements with stakeholders across the Northern and North East Regions to evaluate the enrolment exercise's progress.
As part of her tour, Dr Lartey is expected to visit the Gambaga Alleged Witches Camp, further underscoring the Ministry's commitment to addressing social protection issues in the region.
