GAB Set to Promote Financial Literacy Among Ghanaians

Accra: The Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) is strengthening efforts to improve financial literacy among Ghanaians as part of measures to promote responsible banking and help customers make informed financial choices. The Chief Executive Officer of GAB, John Awuah, stated that the association is collaborating with the Centre for Financial Literacy Education Africa to provide the public with the necessary knowledge to better manage their finances.

According to Ghana Web, John Awuah emphasized the importance of financial literacy at the launch of the Ghana Customer Satisfaction Index (G-CSI) Report on July 30, 2026, where he served as chairman. He highlighted that financial literacy remains a primary focus for the banking industry, aiming to empower the public to make informed financial decisions.

He explained that the GAB's role extends beyond representing banks' interests. The association works with member banks, the Bank of Ghana, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote responsible banking practices, ethical conduct, consumer education, and improved service standards.

Furthermore, GAB conducts independent mystery shopping exercises to complement customer satisfaction surveys. These assessments provide insights into how customers experience banking services, helping the industry identify gaps, improve service quality, and encourage banks to prioritize customer-centric practices.

John Awuah noted the importance of ongoing investment in education, transparency, and service delivery by financial institutions to meet evolving customer expectations and strengthen public confidence in the banking sector.
