Full list of the top gold producers in the world in 2023

In 2023, approximately 3,000 tonnes of gold were produced globally, according to a report by the United States Geological Survey.

The report further identified several countries as the top gold producers in 2023.

According to the Geological Survey’s Mineral Commodity Summaries for January 2024, China, Australia, and Russia were ranked as the top gold producers in the world.

China’s top ranking may surprise many, as the Asian country led in gold production with 370 tonnes, accounting for over 12 percent of the total global production.

Australia and Russia tied for second place, each producing 310 tonnes of gold.

Additionally, Canada was ranked in the Mineral Commodity Summaries list with a gold production of 200 tonnes, while the United States of America produced 170 tonnes and Kazakhstan produced 130 tonnes.

They were ranked as the fourth, fifth, and sixth top gold producers, respectively.

Among the top ten list were Mexico, producing 120 tonnes of gold; Indonesia with 110 tonnes; and South Africa and
Uzbekistan producing 100 tonnes each during the period.

However, Ghana was ranked 11th in the United States Geological Survey, having produced about 90 tonnes of gold in 2023.

This represented an increase from the previous year’s production of 88 tonnes in 2022.
