FSHS amidst economic difficulties: government commended for regular supply of foodstuffs

Dormaa-Ahenkro, July 27, GNA – Mr Abraham Peprah, the Assistant Headmaster, Domestic of Dormaa Senior High School (SHS) has commended the Government for sustaining a regular supply of foodstuffs to the school.

He explained that the school had constantly and continuously enjoyed the regular supply of food items until the emergence of the present economic downturn and the record increase in enrollment under the Free SHS (FSHS) programme.

Mr Peprah gave the commendation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Dormaa-Ahenkro, Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region to ascertain how the school management had managed and handled the supply of foodstuffs in relation to the upsurge of student intake coupled with the seemingly difficult situation resulting from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

He said the school’s management had been managing effectively what looked like shortages while supplies were brought to the school from the Sunyani warehouse of the National Buffer Stock Company.

Mr Peprah lauded the Government for the introduction of the FSHS programme and its maintenance to date, despite some implementation and operational challenges.

He appealed to parents to support the Government if they could, by absorbing the feeding cost as he explained that, the “Government is shouldering lots of responsibilities in managing the FSHS programme.”

“Government is paying for textbooks and school uniforms, which is contributing to making the management of the economy even more difficult,” he cited.
