French Funfair Aims to Spark Children’s Interest in Language Learning

Accra:An initiative using games, competitions, and interactive activities to teach French to children seeks to make language learning more engaging beyond the traditional classroom setting.

According to Ghana News Agency, the 'Super Wonderland French Funfair and Games' is set for November 7, 2026, at the Legon Stadium in Accra. The event will gather children aged six to 17 for activities designed to help them practice French in an informal and enjoyable environment.

Madam Mildred Frimpong, CEO of GH Online French Lessons for Kids/Adults and Corporate, explained that the annual program started five years ago due to concerns about declining interest in conventional French language instruction. This year's event will feature French quizzes, cooking, reading, and picture-description competitions, as well as dancing, with participating schools competing for trophies and medals.

The program is themed 'Une langue ajoutée est une valeur ajoutée' (An Added Language is an Added Value). Madam Frimpong emphasized the practical importance of French for Ghanaian children, noting Ghana's proximity to French-speaking countries like Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, Burkina Faso, and Benin. Proficiency in French can help young Ghanaians communicate with their peers in neighboring countries and engage in regional activities.

Beyond the funfair, GH Online French Lessons has contributed to French language education by donating storybooks to schools and providing financial assistance for the establishment of French language studios.
