Former PMMC Director Refutes Claims of Audit Delays Due to Management

Accra:Former Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Nana Akwasi Awuah, has dismissed claims that the lack of audits from 2020 to 2024 was the result of management's inaction.

According to Ghana Web, Awuah clarified that he requested a multi-year audit from the Auditor-General on September 2, 2024, covering the five-year period. He attributed the delay in conducting these audits to bureaucratic issues related to appointing a new external auditor by the Ghana Audit Service, not management's negligence.

Awuah stated that the Auditor-General's team began their work in September 2024, aided by support from Parliament's Select Committee on State Enterprises. The audit reports for 2020 to 2024 were finalized and submitted in April and June of 2025.

This explanation comes after GoldBod's engagement with Parliament's Public Accounts Committee suggested that PMMC's audits were not conducted until new management requested them in 2025. Awuah also noted that PMMC underwent its first performance audit in nearly two decades in 2023, revealing a turnaround by the end of 2024, which helped lay the groundwork for the creation of the Ghana Gold Board, the successor to PMMC.
