Former NPP Chairman Urges Peaceful Elections in Kumasi

Kumasi:Mr. Akwasi Abu, the former Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Manso-Adubia, has called on party aspirants, delegates, and supporters to ensure that the upcoming national elections in Kumasi are conducted peacefully, freely, and fairly.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Abu emphasized the importance of setting aside differences, avoiding tension-inducing actions, and working together to strengthen unity within the party. The NPP's national elections are scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, in Kumasi, where national executives will be elected to lead the party for the next four years.

Mr. Abu stressed that the elections must be held in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, urging party members to prioritize the collective interest of the NPP over individual ambitions. He stated there is no justification for hooliganism, intimidation, or any conduct that could disrupt the electoral process.

He also appealed to aspirants and delegates to exercise restraint and ensure the elections are conducted peacefully and orderly. Additionally, he cautioned against campaign insults, personal attacks, and inflammatory remarks that could cause divisions within the party. Mr. Abu warned against offering money or inducements to influence the election, as such actions could undermine its credibility.

Mr. Abu called on election organizers and stakeholders to maintain transparency and fairness in the election process, allowing delegates to vote without intimidation. He urged delegates to carefully consider the competence and commitment of the aspirants before voting, as the party needs dedicated leaders to strengthen its structures and unite members.

He expected successful aspirants to show commitment to the party and serve its members diligently. Mr. Abu also appealed to unsuccessful aspirants and their supporters to accept the election outcome and support the elected executives for the sake of party unity. He highlighted the need for all members to bury their differences post-election and work collectively to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Mr. Abu concluded by expressing that a peaceful and credible election would lay the foundation for greater unity and cooperation within the party, as the NPP prepares for the next electoral cycle. He urged all involved to make the national election a testament to the party's commitment to democratic principles and peaceful political participation.
