Former MP Urges Investigation into Big Push Programme’s Sole Sourcing Contracts

Accra: Mr Alex Djornobuah Tetteh, a former Member of Parliament for Sefwi Akontombra, has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate all contracts awarded under the Big Push programme through sole sourcing. In a press statement, he alleged that the programme had become a scheme to loot state resources and enrich politicians.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Tetteh highlighted concerns over the contracts being awarded with inflated sums. He stated that these contracts, particularly those awarded through sole sourcing, have been set at prices that no government committed to transparency and value for money should defend. He cited the example of the Enchi-Kodjour-Pakyi road in the Sefwi Akontombra District, where the cost was fixed at $1,252,779.68 per kilometer.

Mr Tetteh raised questions about the rationale behind such pricing, especially at a time when the government claimed the country was experiencing lower inflation and a more stable exchange rate. He expressed concerns over potential breaches of procurement laws, which could render the Big Push contracts invalid.

The former MP called on the OSP to conduct thorough investigations to ensure accountability and safeguard public funds.
