Former DRIP Coordinator Eyes Akan NPP Vice-Chair Post

Kadjebi: Mr Francis Agorson, a former Kadjebi District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) Coordinator, has declared his intention to contest for the Akan Constituency First Vice-Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mr Agorson, who described himself as a 'true grassroots man,' disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kadjebi in the Oti Region. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Agorson stated that his decision to vie for the position was driven by his desire to help reorganise and strengthen the party's base in the constituency, ahead of the Election 2028. He expressed confidence that his election as Vice-Chairman would energise the rank and file of the party and significantly increase its vote share in the area. Mr Agorson emphasized his extensive experience with the party, having worked from the grassroots level and understanding the concerns of polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and constituency officers. He believes his experience will he lp bring unity and effective mobilisation within the party. He noted that the Akan Constituency required dedicated and accessible leadership prioritising reconciliation, inclusiveness, and strategic planning to ensure victory in future elections. Having previously served the party in various capacities, including as a Polling Station Chairman and Electoral Area Coordinator, Mr Agorson has acquired in-depth knowledge of party structures and operations. In 2022, Mr Agorson contested for the same position and narrowly lost to the sitting First Vice-Chairperson, Madam Abena Okyerewa Okyere, by six votes. He pledged to work closely with constituency executives, polling station officers, youth organisers, and women organisers to rebuild confidence among party faithful and attract floating voters. The former DRIP Coordinator also highlighted the need for intensified grassroots engagement, regular meetings, and capacity-building programmes for party officers to enhance efficiency at all levels. Mr Agorson appealed to delegates to give him the mandate when nominations are officially opened, assuring them of transparency, commitment, and loyalty to the ideals of the NPP. He reiterated his commitment to unity within the party, stressing that collective effort and discipline are key to achieving success. Mr Agorson is expected to file his nomination when the constituency announces its timetable for internal elections.
