Accra- The Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Wednesday, received cheques for a total of GH130,000.00 plus agricultural inputs from five organisations towards the 34t National Farmers Day celebration.
The companies are; Macro Fertil, Yara Ghana Limited, Mc Agro, Crocodile Machetes, and the Flour Mills of Ghana Limited.
The Farmer’s Day, which would celebrated on the theme: Agriculture: Moving Ghana Beyond Aid, will be held at Tamale, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
The event is expected to attract stakeholders in the agriculture and fisheries sectors across the country and honour those whose achievements have been exceptional in the year.
Macro Fertil donated herbicides and fungicides valued at GH21,000.00; Yara Ghana gave 100 bags of fertilisers and a cheque for GH25,000.00; Mc Agro gave a cheque for GH100,000.00; while Crocodile Machetes Ghana gave 15 boxes of machetes valued at GH11,000.00.
Flour Mill of Ghana Limited also gave 52 bags of poultry feed valued at GH5,200.00 and a cheque for GH5,000.00.
The donations form part of the companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility and commitments towards the development of the agricultural sector.
Receiving the donations, Mr Kennedy Osei Nyarko, a Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, who is in-charge of Cocoa, said the Government appreciated the efforts of farmers and that the Ministry had improved on this year’s Farmers Day Celebration.
He said the donations would go a long way to complement the Government’s efforts to recognise and reward hard-working farmers.
He thanked the institutions for the gesture and appealed to others to emulate the donating institutions.
The National Farmers Day Celebration is held on the first Friday of every December to recognise and reward hard working farmers and fishermen.
