Accra: Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) are battling a fire that gutted a residential apartment at Accra New Town in Accra. The fire started on the first floor of a four-storey building on Sunday, August 16, 2026, sending thick smoke billowing from the affected apartment as firefighters worked to bring the situation under control.
According to Ghana Web, residents gathered at the scene reported that access to the affected floor has been challenging, forcing firefighters to deploy a ladder to reach the apartment and intensify their firefighting efforts. The cause of the blaze is suspected to have been from an overheated power bank that had been left on charge.
Firefighting operations are still ongoing at the time of reporting. However, no injuries had been recorded as firefighters continued their efforts to bring the blaze under control.
