Nyankpala:Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that Ghana's New Economy initiative is set to tackle the human cost of unemployment, focusing on removing barriers that hinder young people, farmers, and small businesses from achieving sustainable livelihoods.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Forson emphasized the urgent need to transform education into employment, support talent, and ensure that productive efforts translate into opportunities. He highlighted the personal nature of unemployment, citing examples of graduates unable to find work and young individuals with talent but lacking capital.
Dr. Forson placed jobs and economic opportunity at the core of the New Economy, emphasizing the struggles behind unemployment statistics. He pointed out the challenges faced by farmers who lack reliable markets for their produce and small business owners hindered by high credit costs.
He also addressed the pain felt by families who sacrifice to educate their children, only to see them remain jobless at home. Dr. Forson firmly rejected the normalization of these issues, asserting that the New Economy demands change.
The Finance Minister shared these insights while speaking to students and faculty at the University for Development Studies' Nyankpala Campus.
