Ho, June 1, GNA – The body of 17-year-old lightning victim in Ho has been removed for burial by family members.

Personnel from the security, disaster management, paramedics, and environmental health agencies as well journalists visited where the body lay and looked on helplessly.

The scene became a focus of the public and held vehicular traffic that had to be managed by the police.

Rituals were led by a spiritualist from Adaklu, following, which the body was concealed in a body bag and then placed in a coffin.

Rejoice, mother of the deceased said he would be buried same day at Sokode Bagble in the Ho Municipality.

She however debunked speculations of theft as the cause of the perceived supernatural occurrence, and said oracles consulted by the family found her late son of no guilt.

“We wanted to know what killed him, and I am pleased to know that he did not steal from anyone, so the family’s decision now is to claim our son’s body for burial,” she said.

The event had become of public interest nationwide captured on several technological devices.

Mr Divine Bosson, MCE for Ho, visited the scene, and commiserated with the family.

Officers of NADMO provided the needed tools for the removal, while the police facilitated the corona documentation, and secured the large gathering at the scene of the incident.

The deceased, who is the first of five children, and a student of the Sokode Secondary Technical School, was among five hit by lightning during a brief rainfall while hawking coconut fruits.

The others, which included school children, survived the bolt, and were taken in by the ambulance service.
