Aflao: The family of the late Christopher Ahordo, a mobile money vendor murdered in April 2025, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for prompt action on the case or face a peaceful occupation of the Ketu Divisional Police Command at Denu-Tokor.
According to Ghana News Agency, the warning was delivered during a press conference in Aflao, where family members and concerned residents voiced their frustration over delays and perceived lack of progress in the investigation. Reports indicate that the prime suspect, Mr. Ali Tahidu, escaped from police custody at Adale, while other suspects were allegedly granted bail under questionable circumstances.
The family, expecting a swift and transparent investigation since the incident on April 28, 2025, expressed their diminishing confidence in the process due to what they describe as negligence and lack of urgency. They are demanding the re-arrest of the escaped suspect, intensified investigations, and full disclosure from the Ghana Police Service on the case's status. They also call for accountability from any officers whose actions or inactions may have contributed to the suspect's escape.
Emphasizing that their actions are not intended to undermine police authority but to seek justice for their deceased relative, the family appeals to the IGP, human rights organizations, civil society groups, traditional and religious leaders, and the international community to show interest in ensuring justice is served.
Mr. Edem Viglo, the Convenor of the press conference, informed the Ghana News Agency that while the family is committed to peaceful and lawful means, they may resort to further action if their concerns are not addressed within 14 days. He mentioned that the proposed occupation of the Ketu Divisional Police Command would be a last resort to highlight their demands.
Mr. Viglo noted the growing frustration among Aflao's youth regarding the case's handling, which could escalate if authorities do not act promptly. However, he reaffirmed that the family does not support violence or lawlessness, seeking justice through appropriate channels.
The late Christopher Ahordo, remembered as a hardworking businessman, left a grieving family and community. The family is resolute in pursuing justice until all responsible for the crime are apprehended and prosecuted.
